MG (02/08/98) - This game was to defend our Central Division Title. It was another game which shows the ever-popular Turtle tactic of the IGL. They played all-defense and won 192 to 140.
2AA (02/05/98) - Our first encounter with the Turtle. This match was for the League Championship -- we lost 188 to 122. The team that capped on us 5 times in our first encounter (01/11/98) gave up on attacking us and stayed in their base.
Some of you may be asking, "What is the Turtle?" The Turtle is a "tactic" used by some clans in the IGL to insure a victory. Its a method where they attain a small frag lead, then they play all defense for the majority (rest) of the match. This is the major flaw of a caps + frags type of league. Clans can win by giving up the true nature of TF; they give up their attempts to capture the enemies' flag. This is not in the spirit of TF! (Visit the Sycamore Tree for more information about all-defensive matches, as that is the current hot-debate there.)
This is not the same as going capless in a match -- as long as you have sincerely tried throughout. This is not the same as a clan getting pinned in their own base due to their enemies' offense. This is not the same as regrouping, or even a small lull in the match. This is not an attempt to assess your opponent or try and make them adjust to something new. This is all about hiding in your own base and playing it safe.
If you want to see the Turtle in action (hah!) here are a few
of our spectator demos:
from the AA match (2
mb - Jarv's version, only last half of the match)
from the AA match (5
mb - Wartribe's version, entire match + pre matches)
I could post the MG demo, but its pretty much the same thing.
Come on people, lets play TF: Team Fortress, not Turtle
Fortress.

With this victory, we move up to 8 wins and 2 losses in IGL play, with $36,500 in league money. We play 2 matches this week: one for the league championship title, and another to defend our central division crown. Check out the IGL for details and the results of the other league matches.
A screenshot of the match has been posted.
Next, we play Mortarion Guard on Sunday, February 8th @ 8:00p CST on the MG server. This match we will be defending our Central Division crown.
We've played both of these clans recently -- both are great clans and these should be some of the most exciting matches for us ever. Isn't Team Fortress wonderful? : )
