Iron's IGL Statement

Demo (2.3mb) of the match, recorded by Camel. It is done in the free-style camera method. Well worth watching to see the incredible battle for our flag. Pull up a chair and a drink, as the demo covers the entire match... approximately 50 minutes.

has been updated also. Thanks to Camel's demo, I was able to extract
a working log (without the true server log) and derive detailed statistics

I will play as Offensive Captain in place of Snare, for this one match.
4 / 6 - Standard. See above lineup.
5 / 5 - Kouros leaves defense to join offensive squad.
3 / 7 - Sr.Vive leaves offense to join defensive squad.
If at anytime any team captain requests more help, they may call a formation change. "Change to 3 / 7!" etc. Pay attention and the affected person should acknowledge the shift. Use this sparringly... if you change the balance from 4 / 6, you take away from the other squad. If we get capped on many times very early, if offense fails to cap with little time left in the match, or if we want to sit on a lead... .. these are times to call for a shift.
I will not panic like I did last week. That caused a few problems for us. First, if we have all 10 starters in the irc channel, we should not worry. If someone drops during the match, they will probably come back. Again, no need to substitute.
When is a substitution necessary? When 1) all starting persons are not present in irc and initial pregame 2) during a match, if a starter drops out for an extended period of time -- 3 mins or more 3) a starter evaluates their ping to be unplayable, and moves himself to spectator.
We cannot have 11 or more people on our team, as we will surely be disqualified if that happens in the match. Always check team counts if you are unsure (+showteamscores). If you drop for an extended period of time, you had better come back as spectator first, to find out if you have been sub'ed.
Sub Order : 1) Avalanche, 2) Camel, 3) Snare. This is the order subs will be called upon if needed. Spectators are always encouraged to film the match.
After the match has started (not before) put on your white top. here's an example to add to your config file:
bind ins "setinfo topcolor 0"
When you punch the insert key, it will make you wear a white top. This is our attempt to counteract spies. Spies will usually be a solid color, and will be a little easier to tell apart from our own players. Try it out in a public game. I especially enjoy it in a public game, since I can tell which players are fellow KoQs easily, without using the id command.
This will be our toughest match by far. Iron is a strong group, and will give our defense its first real trial. They use the traditional heavy classes that PH and SO lacked. They even have information on us, as FoxMulder left PH (when it broke up) and joined Iron. He knows a bit about us from the scrimmage, and may possibly have a demo at his disposal.
Offense will be tested, as in IGL play the Iron defense has only allowed a handful of captures. Expect Demomen and Soldiers to be near their flag area. Expect a few lpbs on their side too.
We have an excellent group. If we all keep our cool, execute, and give our best efforts -- we will prevail.
KoQ vs SO - from SO's point of view.
What a gem. Check it out at Amok's homepage. Sure, I could make a straight link to it, but he'd probably appreciate the hits. It is located in the miscellaneous section and is about 3.5megs in size.
Great viewing, it shows alot about their offensive play and our defense. Its a totally different perspective with KoQ being the enemy. :)
If you have any problems running the demo, I've found that you must execute the demo (playdemo) command twice for it to start. I also had to rename the file, it didn't want to cooperate with me initially. Probably just mistyped the filename. (changed it to a.qwd)

Another tip from the blue,"Use flaginfo"... This is so valuable while in a game - it'll let you know who/if anyone is carrying the flags. On offense, I check periodically to see if I should be suppport or aggressor toward flag. On defense, I check to see if I should still be hunting the enemy down w/flag. I know as soon as you see,"Your flag has been taken" - you're never sure that the basement crew killed the flag carrier until you get the "secured" message. Well, now you can find out for yourself... (we should still give our flag status messages though.)
The command, "flaginfo" will let you know the status of both flags. It will tell you if it in their base, lying on the ground, or who is carrying the flag. Wonder no more, because you can find out without asking...

Spectator Mode & Recording in a nutshell
There is always more than one way to do something, but let me spell out a sure way to do this for our server. Print this out if needed.
1. connect to net as usual
2. startup the qwcl.exe from explorer
3. at the console, type in:
1. connect to net as usual
2. right click on koq server, choose properties
3. fill in spectator password to red
4. under server menu, choose "Observe this game"
This should allow you to connect in the server as a spectator. It may be redundant to set the spectator variable twice... not sure if it handles the integer and string in seperate fields.. so just do it as listed.
Now, recordings can be done by spectators and players. Yes... you can relive your glorious moments as a player too. Spectators will try to cover a broad range of people, where as player recording can only give their pov.
Once you're in the game and ready to record, type
in at the console:
/record koqdemo.qwd 220.127.116.11:27501
this will disconnect you from the server and reconnect again, so be smart when you use it. It does us no good to start the recording mid game. Pregame will more than likely be set to a few minutes once I reset the server... so that time may be a good opportunity to issue this command. Oh, I really don't think we need players to make a recording...
you can use whatever name you like... But you
must issue the
command to terminate the current recording session. In spectator mode, you can fly around freely... move past walls -- do anything you like and it won't interfere with the game. Try to use free-form mode over the auto-tracking mode of recording. Its a bit more work, but easier to watch.
There is also a /rerecord command that should let you make another recording without having to specify the server ip -- but I have found that rerecord doesn't work half of the time, so I cannot suggest using it.
I suggest you start recording once you know were are fixing to start (spectators only)... players should not issue the command because they must not leave once prematch is under way.
Also, spectators can interact in dialogue with the people in the game. But, once the match starts, spectators shoud ONLY use messagemode2 (teammode) to converse with other spectators only. Do not talk to the players concerning the match.
If you have a better way, or wish to add more about recording/spectating, make it known in the message board.

Everyone -- remember to meet at our irc channel at 7:30p on this Thursday (11/6). If you want to warm up before the match, come to the channel at 7:00p and we'll see what we can do.
Match is scheduled at 8:00p CST -- at the very latest, it will start at 8:15p... its one game at 45 mins at our server -- so try to have something to drink near your computer... you're gonna be there for awhile. :)
Server password for players : igl
Players will need to show up in the irc channel and talk over positions and strats. You may also check out your ping in the server, but do come to the irc channel first.
Server password for spectators : red
Do not give out either password, of course. I may invite a few other people to spectate.
Spectators will need to film the game if possible. Also, spectators -- do not help us out by giving us intelligence. That isn't fair -- keep all spectating comments on messagemode2. Also remember to take screenshots of the final score... this applies to everyone.
Make sure you use the proper password! Please don't use the player password unless you are playing in this match. Here's the results of the attendance for the match on Thursday. Sent in status as:
Yes- Jarv, Pekr, Camel, Snare, Assman, Avalanche, Rellika, Kouros, Jenkins, Hodgekins.

This makes it easy to decide the lineup... as 10 people have said yes,
and 3 said maybe. The 10 people who said "yes" will be designated
as starters for this match, and the 3 "maybes" will be the reserves/spectators.
Squad Units and Formations
In a change from our session last night -- we will not try anything fancy for this match. I don't wanna risk us messing up since we've never tried the 9/10 scheme.
LineUp (3-7 mode)
Offense: Snare, Rellika, Jarv
Defense: Jenkins, Kouros, Hodgekins, Pek-r, Avalanche, Camel, Assman
LineUp (4-6 mode)
Offense: Snare, Rellika, Jarv, Kouros
Defense: Jenkins, Hodgekins, Pek-r, Avalanch, Camel, Assman
Ask your respectative captain(s) about your playing position... it should be along the same line as we've practiced in the past.
We will start out in the 3-7 formation... if offense struggles, we will pull Kouros to make it a 4-6.
Without having Leiodes and Sr.Vive in offense for this match, it does tend to change things up. You both should be present in the match -- if anyone's pings is suffering, either one can take their place.
Pilate may not be able to make it either... if he does, he can replace someone on Defense if needed. I really need you to film the game! If you're not sure about how to do it, let me know.
Remember, each week we will ask for attendance... and send those in asap when asked. I will do my best to make sure no-one ever sits out for 2 games in a row... however, this can depend on your availablity..

This might seem trivial, but I want to make sure we ALL understand the guidelines of the league. Ignorance is not bliss in the case. :) We do not want to be disqualified for not following rules.
Also, the restricted area is going to place a even more important role for the clan -- and I need to make sure everyone knows how to access it... so send it in.
Actually a small maintenance update to the message board links... but I still find news of some caliber to report.
Here's a short list of things we need to improve:
- We need to inform the clan when you cannot attend a practice session.. This is not for my idle curiosity -- its so we can plan our practices out. Thank you to all that have and continue to inform the group
- We need more participation on the message board. I know its been down at times, but we still don't use it enough. Its not as if we are always chatting in IRC about game plans on non-scheduled times.... same goes with our Strat pages. It would be nice to have a new author of an article every once in awhile.
- We need the newsletter done on a regular basis. Weekly, bi-weekly, whatever...
- If you need to leave early during a practice session, that is fine. (Please say before hand as Kouros did...) However, today, we had many people leave during our public game... I would rather us all go back to IRC and chat a bit to finalize things before we all bail out.... Otherwise, it is nothing more than playing a pickup game on any given day. I did have a few things we needed to discuss, btw.
Needless to say, I feel cheated on this last Saturday's practice session. It was a waste of my two hours. I really do hope next Thursday will be better. We only have 8 meetings in a given month... (much less rigorous than many other clan schedules) so lets try to make the most of them.
KoQ is about having fun, and I know it is not fun to read a post like this. You can be assured it wasn't fun for me to write it up either.

Map Demos Offline
I removed my demos of DM maps. I don't think anyone plays DM much more anyhow -- plus it'll save me about 400k in webspace.
Yeah, I know its acting up. The entire domain doesn't seem to be responding, so I am unable to verify the problem any further. If its not resolved in a few days, I 'll consider getting another message board from a different party. I miss it already, and I'm sure a few of you finally came to see what it was all about... only to find it not loading.
Here's another request: if anyone would like to write an article that would be beneficial to clan, please send it in.
And another thought -- if we aren't really using (reading) these articles, I'll consider making them public. There are so many sites out on the web that try to cover hints and TF classes, that do a poor job. Our articles are better than what most sites have up. Plus, I don't want to waste them if we aren't using them. Making them public would be free publicity for the clan and maybe draw more people to our site. Who knows?
I do know that many of us browse through these pages frequently -- its
just that this "restricted" area isn't having the impact I imagined it
would. I get very little feedback if people use or learn anything
-- and I see people asking me the questions on things covered in this area.
Draw your own conclusions.

I'm glad that we've finally achieved our goal for all TF Classes to be covered, but we still need more new and fresh articles from all members. Thanks to all those that have submitted an article(s) so far!!
TFiguration V2.0 Beta
You may not have seen, but on the TFiguration page, i have released a beta version of my newest work. It has quite a few new options and some things you might really like. Check it out when you have time and let me know of any bugs you find or ideas you have.
I just added another page to our archive... but, I have some bad news to tell. I have some new ideas that I would like to post. There are some miscellaneous tricks for many of the classes that might be extremely helpful during a game.
However, I have vowed not to post any more of my articles until someone else gets the two remaining TF Classes done.
So, its up to you guys. This "area" was created for us the share information with each other -- so its time that some of you stepped up to the plate...
I will be added some miscellaneous QW/TF commands soon, as well as some new techniques for the Engineer (dispenser as pbomb) and Spy (more realistic feigning).
You might want to let me know which one you are going to do -- so there will not be duplicates.
